Ecdysis Foundation

Ecdysis Foundation  has a mission to rethink how agricultural science is applied to help support the evolution of a regenerative food system. Key goals are to empirically validate the economic, ecological, and nutritional benefits of regenerative food systems, and produce farmer-generated roadmaps for transitioning to regenerative production systems.

Funding purpose: Further extend the 1000 Farms Initiative to see what the potential is for our food system to solve planetary scale problems like climate chaos, biodiversity loss, desertification, pollution, and the breakdown of rural society. Specific funds are used to support our work on changing California agriculture along regenerative principles.

We are now moving into our next phases of 1000 Farms Initiative:

  • Project Ignite: We will use the science we’ve collected to light the flame of a future regenerative food system, strategically gathering data to build replication in key food systems and stress testing our perception of these systems under more extreme climatological conditions.
  • Project Avalanche: All it takes is one pebble to start an avalanche of change in our food system. Project Avalanche aims to cast pebbles of change by supplying tools, protocols and support to participating farmers across North America to measure their own fields, empowering farmer-scientists in receiving contextualized information about their farms. They will be able to compare different systems, push the food system forward in new and exciting ways, and use the information to aid in policy development and growth in our food system.
