La Semilla Food Center

La Semilla Food Center’s mission is to foster a healthy, self-reliant, fair, and sustainable food system in the Paso del Norte region of southern New Mexico and El Paso, Texas.

Funding purpose: Enable La Semilla tend to soil and culture as soilkeepers advancing foodways in the Chihuahuan Desert. Funds are used to support expansion of the growing Chihuahuan Desert Agroecology Network – incorporation and expansion of Chihuahuan Desert food producing plants at small farm sites across the region, implementing the Agroecology Farming Fellowship, Chihuahuan Desert Cultural Fellowship, and deepening our collective, regional practice through creative food growing, culinary traditions, documentation, and storytelling.
