Higher Crop Yields

Soils that are high in soil organic carbon (more than 1.5 to 2.0 percent carbon or 2.5 to 3.5 percent organic matter) produce higher crop yields and are more resistant to drought. An increase of 1 ton of soil organic carbon per hectare to the croplands of developing countries could increase food production there by 30 to 50 million tons per year.
